Unannounced inspections by DOL allowed – Effective 1 June 2025

Slide summary on the decision made: In line with resolutions from the IES Branch meeting held in April 2025, all inspections conducted under key employment legislation will now be unannounced, effective 1 June 2025. This change is aimed at strengthening the integrity, consistency, and enforcement of labour laws. Inspections under the BCEA, OHSA, COIDA, NMWA, UIA, and UICA will no longer be pre-scheduled. Additionally, all BCEA inspections will include 100 (One hunded) % employee verification to ensure full administrative compliance. Supervisors will oversee implementation, and any exceptions must be formally motivated and approved in writing.
